We will, and must be above all, known as soul winners. With Lisa Hinson’s many trips out of country, resulting in reaching thousands with her message in song and word, and Ronny’s long-standing songwriting and singing ministry, that is even now reaching the far corners of the earth, they are indeed striving to win souls and tear down the kingdom of the enemy.
About
Ronny Hinson has traveled for fifty-four years singing to some of the largest crowds to ever hear gospel music. He also is the organizer of the Original Hinsons, which was founded in 1967.
Ronny is known best as the composer of the gospel music standard, “The Lighthouse,” written in 1970. The Lighthouse won the coveted dove award and prestigious singing news fan award for song of the year in 1972. The Original Hinsons have become a name that is synonymous with gospel music. Ronny Hinson moved his family from California to the southeast part of the U.S. in 1971. To what is known as the “Bible Belt.” In that short time, he exposed the Original Hinsons to the epicenter of southern gospel music. The Original Hinsons became, and remain to this day, the fastest rising group in gospel music history, rising to prominence in eight short years after their move to Madisonville, KY.
The Original Hinsons rose to the pinnacle of their popularity in gospel music in 1979 as the genre’s #1 singing group. They are still recognized as one of the best loved groups in the history of music worldwide. Ronny was the first to bring gospel music to New York’s famous Carnegie Hall with The Original Hinsons singing to a sellout crowd. Ronny, and the Original Hinsons, would go on to appear as regular cast members on the nationally syndicated, and world renowned, Gospel Singing Jubilee television series while continuing to make appearances on other shows such as “The PTL Club,” and performed on Bill Gaither’s Homecoming series. In addition to singing with country legends such as George Jones at his personal country music park, they also made numerous appearances on country music’s “Grand Ole Opry” and made guest appearances on the “Wilburn Brothers” show, the famous “Porter Waggoner Show,” and Ralph Emory’s esteemed, “Pop Goes the Country.”

More recently, in 2018, Ronny performed as a soloist at the NASCAR, Atlanta Motor Speedway, and ministered to drivers and crews.
Ronny has made feature appearances on the Daystar Television Network and the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Ronny’s music is well received around the world in well over one hundred and fifty countries. Both Ronny and the Original Hinsons have performed before elected political figures such as the governors of Kentucky and Illinois, and none other than President Ronald Reagan.
Ronny has written and performed, as has many of gospel music’s most popular artists, some of his best-known and loved songs such as the aforementioned, ”The Lighthouse,” – 9 times #1 song and song of the year in 1972 and recipient of the dove award and the singing news fan award. His song was the first and only song to accomplish this feat for winning in both factions of gospel music. Here are more examples of songs that topped the charts and won numerous awards:
“He Pilots My Ship” – #1 song of the year 1973
“Gods Gonna Do the Same For You and Me” – #1 song two times in 1982

Ronny was the Singing News Top-Five Fan Award nominee numerous years and was voted “Songwriter of the Year” for four consecutive years, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991. Ronny’s faithful dedication to gospel music was recognized by the board of directors of the national quartet convention by 100% vote and landed him the lifetime achievement award in the year of 1990.
Through the years of his career, Ronny’s songs, and Ronny himself, have been nominated for the Gospel Music Association’s coveted Dove Award numerous times. In 2006 Ronny and the Original Hinsons were inducted into the official Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame. The GMA encompasses all genres of Gospel and Christian music.
In 1988 the Original Hinsons disbanded, and Ronny moved forward with a solo career. His first release “Higher Than I’ve Ever Been” skyrocketed to the #1 position in the famous Cashbox Magazine’s official charts. It became one of the top ten songs of the year. Ronny’s next release, “One Drop of Blood,” became a top ten song and helped to launch his longtime successful career as a soloist in the music he knows and loves best. As part of the Original Hinsons, Ronny sang the bass and was seldom recognized as a soloist. Now however, his mellow, lead-baritone, voice has earned him the reputation of a stylist as he wrenches the very heart of the listener with believability. Ronny’s tearful voice pulls listeners into the very depth of his passion.
In 2013, Ronny was honored by the SGMG (Southern Gospel Music Guild) with the “Harmony Honors Top 5 Songwriter Award.” The numerous accomplishments of Ronny’s career garnered him the prestigious “J.D. Sumner – Living Legend Diamond Award” in 2016. The message in Ronny’s songs, his method of delivery, and the person he strives to be in Christ prompted his peers and fans to honor Ronny Hinson for his outstanding individual lifetime achievements and for his contribution to gospel music as a 2016 inductee into the SGMA (Southern Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame.
In 2020, Ronny was, at his surprise, presented with an acknowledgment award that is given to very few, if any, artist/songwriters by the prestigious board of directors of the National Quartet Convention (NQC), recognizing Ronny’s signature song, “The Lighthouse,” for the lasting impact that the song continues to have after 50 years since its inception. His song is the first and only song in the history of the “Singing News Magazine,” which is the official printed voice of gospel music, to garner the front cover of the iconic publication since the magazine’s beginning in May of 1969. The board called Ronny Hinson “A Treasure in gospel music.” His songs will be sung as long as people are singing gospel music.
Still today, Ronny travels, to minister, many thousands of miles per year. By divine design, Ronny and his wife Lisa, pack a powerful punch against the powers of darkness as they tour…singing and exhorting in that uncompromising manner the Hinsons have always been known for.
Coming from a long and fruitful ministry since childhood as a missionary, Lisa is all about selflessness. She contributes greatly to the success of the ministry, both on the stage and behind the scenes. Ronny says, “Jesus is the rock he stands on and Lisa is the rock he leans on.” Of all the achievements to receive accolades for, his greatest award is not one he could have earned or deserves, but simply a perfect gift from God himself…referring, of course, to Lisa. Lisa Hinson has a beautiful voice. In its own unique way, it makes her a very recognizable stylist. Lisa is often sought after as a singer and speaker for women’s conferences all around the US. When it comes to describing who Ronny and Lisa Hinson really are, above all the other high marks, sits the word “real.” With all they’ve seen and done, it’s not about applause, trophies, and inductions, or even crowds of large numbers. Rather, they will, and must, be known as soul winners. With Lisa’s many trips out of country, resulting in reaching thousands with her message in song and word, and Ronny’s long-standing songwriting and singing that is even now reaching the far corners of the earth…they are indeed striving to win souls and tear down the kingdom of the enemy. Fifty-four years of songwriting and singing everywhere often provokes the question, “You must feel so good about the thousands, even millions, your efforts have reached for Christ.” To which Ronny and Lisa both reply, “We can’t see the souls we’ve reached for seeing the ones we’ve missed.” No wonder the motivation to go gets stronger every day. Ronny and Lisa Hinson both live their daily lives knowing the next thing that God does is going to be greater than the last thing he did. Therefore, to them, by faith, their best days are yet to come.
